HybridEdge does not ask you to create an account or provide any personal details. We have no user database, and because of this there will never be any scraping or selling your data. There is nothing to sell.

What the app records, and where it lives

Trips, fuel and charging events, costs, vehicle telemetry read from your OBD adapter, and trip locations are stored on your device, in the app's local database. Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose it: there is no account and no developer server holding a copy of your driving. Deleting the app deletes everything on the phone; we hold no copy to ask us to remove (or restore), because none exists.

The three things you can choose to share — household sync, calibration data, and a diagnostic report — are described in full below.

Household sync (your choice, off until you set it up)

If you turn on household sync, your vehicle's trips, costs, and charging events are copied into your own iCloud and shared with the phones you invite, using Apple's iCloud sharing. This is the one feature that keeps a copy of your driving outside the phone, and it lives in your iCloud account under Apple's terms, not on any server of ours. We never see this data and cannot access it. Leaving the household on one phone stops the sharing for that phone but deletes nothing elsewhere; the copy in your iCloud remains until you remove it through your iCloud storage settings.

Location

If you grant location permission, the app records trip start and end locations and place names to label your logbook. This data stays on your device like everything else. Location permission is optional; the app works without it.

Bluetooth and your car

The app connects to your OBD-II Bluetooth reader and asks your car the same standard read-only questions a mechanic's scan tool asks: battery level, fuel level, speed, odometer. It cannot change vehicle settings, clear fault codes, or modify your car in any way. Vehicle data is processed and stored on your phone; the one exception is the calibration sharing described below, if you have it on.

Reference data the app downloads

The app periodically downloads two public reference files from our public repository: its vehicle-specification database (battery sizes, tank capacities, and similar published figures for PHEV models) and its list of Australian electricity plans and their rates, so new vehicles and tariffs appear without an app update. These requests carry no personal information, no identifiers, and no usage data; they are plain file downloads.

Calibration sharing (your choice, on unless you decline)

When HybridEdge learns how a new vehicle model reports its data, the result can be shared so the app becomes accurate for other owners of the same model. During setup the app asks you directly, with sharing preselected; you can decline with one tap there, or switch it off later in Settings under Diagnostics. If sharing is on, the app submits two kinds of small anonymous record via Apple's CloudKit service. While your model is still being calibrated, it shares each calibration reading: the raw value from the car, the dash reading you typed, the channel, and your vehicle model. When a calibration completes, it shares the fitted numbers. Neither contains trips, locations, times of day, the support code from diagnostic reports, or anything that identifies you. Readings are used only to build your model's calibration and are deleted once that calibration is published; sharing stops by itself once your model is calibrated, and your car keeps calibrating on your phone whether you share or not.

Diagnostic reports (only when you send them)

If something looks wrong, you can choose to send a diagnostic report from Settings → Diagnostics. Nothing is ever sent automatically. Before a report leaves your phone: coordinates are rounded to roughly one kilometre and place names are masked by default (you can enable precise locations if you choose). During the beta, reports also carry a random support code so reports from the same install can be grouped when you ask for help, and a display name only if you choose to set one; the code is generated on your phone and linked to nothing else.

There are two ways to send a report, both started only by you. "Upload report" transmits it directly to the developer through Apple's iCloud service, along with your device model, iOS version, app version, and vehicle model; uploaded reports can be read only by the developer, and are deleted once the issue they describe is resolved. "Email report" hands the same report to your own mail or share sheet, so you can see exactly what it contains before sending it.

Beta testing via TestFlight

If you use HybridEdge through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may provide us with crash logs and feedback you submit, handled under Apple's privacy terms. These contain diagnostic information, not your driving history.

Children

HybridEdge is a vehicle-cost tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, for example if a future optional feature involves a new kind of network request, the change will be described here with a new effective date, and the in-app description will match. (18 August 2026: calibration sharing described in full — readings while a model is being calibrated, fitted numbers on completion, deletion once published. 27 July 2026: added the optional calibration-sharing section above, exactly per this clause. 6 August 2026: calibration sharing changed from off by default to preselected during setup. What is shared did not change; only the default did.)
